The Club
The club was established in 1957, but has its roots before WW2 which was believed to be run by a German coach who was interned during the war. Unfortunately we have no documentation of the club before 1957. Since then the club has developed in strength and has a large membership base with an active social side for all the family and their friends.
The club has had numerous venues in Swinton over the years, starting off in New Cross Street and finally to its now permanent home on Moorside Road. The building has been transformed from a semi derelict state to a first class training area, changing rooms with showers, spectator seating area, recreation room and private parking.
All this has been achieved by the hard work of the members, generated club funds and financial assistance from a number of small grants.
Swinton Judo Club brings an Olympic sport into the community and provides recreational judo for those who want to enjoy the sport in a club atmosphere. It also provides, through the British Judo Association, a competitive judo pathway from beginner  to international levels.
We are members of the British Judo Association and Salford Sports Network.
The club is run entirely by volunteers for the benefit of the members and the local community.
